چکیده

Abstract Coastal fresh groundwater management is a challenging research topic due to the relevance of these resources and huge suffered risks global change overpopulation. The geometrical features coastal aquifers play control role in saltwater intrusion (SWI). Seawater level rise reduction aquifer storage are promoting SWI. All key factors considered with two different numerical approaches defining schematic criteria bottom using code SEAWAT. former approach adopts well-known Henry’s problem; latter based on real study case Gaza (Palestine). Different bed slopes (ABS), hydraulic physical methods for SWI together SLR, recharge reduction, over pumping. results showed that land side ABS cases show more than sea horizontal ABS. Cut-off walls check dams effective manage other slopes, also subsurface dams, earth fill freshwater good while abstraction brackish water combination better mitigate Useful comparing tables considerations defined purpose guide preliminary selections new solutions reducing effect around world. Impact of sea-level rise on sea water intrusion in coastal aquifers.

Despite its purported importance, previous studies of the influence of sea-level rise on coastal aquifers have focused on specific sites, and a generalized systematic analysis of the general case of the sea water intrusion response to sea-level rise has not been reported. In this study, a simple conceptual framework is used to provide a first-order assessment of sea water intrusion changes in c...

Coastal Erosion Due to Seawater Intrusion into Groundwater Aquifers

Problem Statement: In general, the drinking water systems sourced from ground water (GW) contains chemicals at double the current maximum contaminant levels (MCL) of colloids. However, due to increasing demand of water, groundwater may be subjected to over-exploitation and the natural equilibrium is thus disturbed. A steady-state condition is established between seawater and freshwater in a coa...

Laboratory study of the simultaneous effect of discharge well and cut of wall on reducing saltwater intrusion in coastal aquifers

These days, the sea level rising and excessive harvesting of coastal aquifers has caused the intrusion of saltwater into underground water sources. In this study, the performance of the use of cut of wall, discharge well, and their simultaneous use in preventing saltwater intrusion has been evaluated in a laboratory model and under different scenarios. The results show that the appropriate use ...

Stochastic Optimization for an Analytical Model of Saltwater Intrusion in Coastal Aquifers

The present study implements a stochastic optimization technique to optimally manage freshwater pumping from coastal aquifers. Our simulations utilize the well-known sharp interface model for saltwater intrusion in coastal aquifers together with its known analytical solution. The objective is to maximize the total volume of freshwater pumped by the wells from the aquifer while, at the same time...
